An Unmet Need in
Operating Room Efficiency
Errors in intrasugrical imaging using the mobile c-arm fluoroscope are
common and costly. During surgery, the surgeon is focused on the patient
and cannot solely operate the mobile c-arm. Instead, the responsibility
falls on the x-ray technologist.
This indirect connection between the surgeon and mobile c-arm is the
source of error in fluoroscopic imaging. When an image is taken in error,
it cannot be used and the surgery is hindered. This leads to increasing the
number of x-rays re-taken to obtain one that is acceptable, thus losing
valuable resources during surgery, and exposing the patient and clinicians
to more radiation than is now necessary.
Navi C effectively resolves
this problem at its root.
Navi C executes a knowledge
transfer agreement with researchers at Simon Fraser University.
November 2010
Dr. Pierre Guy, orthopedic surgeon, tests the Navi C
prototype at the Vancouver Hospital.
